The XIV-th Feofilov symposium continues a sequence of symposia started in 1965. The first nine symposia were held as national meetings. The X-th (St. Petersburg, 1995), XI-th (Kazan, 2001), XII-th (Ekaterinburg 2004) and XIII-th (Lake Baikal 2007) symposia were held with international participation.

The symposium includes all aspects of theoretical and experimental studies of the phenomena related to the f- and d- ions in condensed matter. Relevant areas of research include condensed matter physics, material sciences and the novel instrumentation required to carry out such research.

Main Topics of the symposium are: f- and d- ions in crystalline and non-crystalline insulators and semiconductors, energy transfer, electron-phonon interaction, dynamics and relaxation of excited states, charge transfer phenomena and charge ordering, cooperative processes, coherent phenomena , optical - microwave spectroscopy, spectroscopy of magneto-concentrated crystals, spectroscopy of nanocrystals, probing of organic and bio-materials, nonlinear spectroscopy, solid-state lasers, scintillators, phosphors, crystallochemical aspects of developing of new materials.

The Symposium will be held in St.Petersburg city center. St. Petersburg has earned the reputation of being one of the most beautiful cities in the world thanks to its unique architectural ensembles of streets, canals and squares. St. Petersburg is a city of beautiful baroque and classical palaces and buildings.
There are more than 100 museums in the city and its suburbs, including the Hermitage - one of the world's largest collections of art. St. Petersburg is the home of the famous Russian classical ballet school and numerous ballet and opera theaters that will be available during conference time. Symposium will take place at a time, when several cultural events (musical and theatrical shows and artistic exhibits) will happen here.
